Gold Purchase Evaluation Criteria (part 1)

We buy all types of used gold
Do you have gold pieces that you no longer use?
Give them a new life! At Lusijoia we buy all types of gold, from antique jewelry to damaged pieces, always with a fair valuation and in accordance with the daily gold price.
Advantages of selling us the Gold you no longer use:
✔️ Transparent and non-binding assessment
✔️ Immediate payment
✔️ Certified and reliable team
✔️ Possibility of exchanging for new pieces
Before selling, talk to us!
However, please be aware that only after an in-person assessment is it possible for us to assign a binding value to Gold and Precious Stones assessments. Although it is currently possible to obtain a pre-evaluation of a Jewel through photographs, videos and a detailed description, no technology replaces a face-to-face evaluation.
Using experience, appropriate literature, a precious metals analyzer, a gemstone tester (we have a diamond tester), magnifying glasses and proprietary acids, we perform a rigorous and accurate assessment. The in-person assessment is binding and allows the item to be transacted after its value has been calculated.
Only based on an in-person assessment can we assign a binding value.
Assay Marks
Responsibility: The Manufacturer's or Trader's Mark
Each piece of jewelry certified by the assay office has a responsibility mark, which identifies its manufacturer or importer. This brand is unique and registered with the National Assay Office, allowing the origin of the piece to be traced. Manufacturers and traders who sell precious metals must register their brand with the INCM, ensuring that all their jewelry is properly authenticated. This way, the consumer can be sure that they are purchasing a certified quality part, coming from a reliable supplier.
The manufacturing mark or equivalent contains a mark that includes the first letter of the name of the manufacturer, assayer-founder or importer and a specific symbol, which cannot be confused with those that already exist, and is not taken from the animal kingdom.
Assay Office: The Official Quality Seal
The hallmark is the official stamp that certifies the precious metal content of the piece. These contrasts vary depending on the type of metal and its purity:
- Gold: Markings for 9K (375), 14K (585), 18K (750) and 19.2K (800)
- Silver: Marks for 800 and 925
- Platinum and Palladium: They also have specific contrasts
These seals are applied to jewelry after analysis, ensuring that they meet the standards established by law. In Portugal, hallmarks have a specific design for each metal, making them easy to identify.
Rarity of the Piece: The Value Beyond the Metal
A piece of jewelry is not only valuable because of the precious metal it is made of. The rarity of the piece can increase its value significantly. Factors such as exclusive design, antiquity, artisanal techniques, limited edition or the presence of rare gemstones influence its status as a unique piece.
In the case of vintage or antique jewelry, hallmarks become even more important, as they allow us to date and identify their origin. Some historical marks can even make a piece more valuable to collectors and goldsmith connoisseurs.
Most Jewels have their own style and it is based on experience, knowledge of the subject and specific documentation that they can be “cataloged” as belonging to a certain period. Parts produced in series (thousands of units) without there being a strong market demand for these parts may have an additional rarity value.
If you are looking for certified gold, silver or filigree pieces, hallmarks ensure that you are investing in quality, tradition and authenticity.
Designing the Piece: The First Step to an Excellent Jewelry
Before receiving the hallmark, the gold or silver piece goes through a detailed design and manufacturing process, ensuring quality and authenticity. The Design Process includes:
1️⃣ Design and Inspiration: The creation of a piece of jewelry begins with a unique concept, whether inspired by tradition, nature or modern trends.
2️⃣ Choice of Material: Gold and silver are selected based on their purity and quality, ensuring durability and shine.
3️⃣ Artisanal or Technological Manufacturing: The piece can be made manually by master goldsmiths or through advanced techniques, such as 3D printing and casting.
4️⃣ Details and Finishing: The jewel receives the final touches, such as polishing, engraving and, if necessary, the setting of precious stones.
5️⃣ Certification: Before being sold, the piece goes through the assay office, where it is checked and receives its official mark, guaranteeing authenticity and quality.
The design of a piece of jewelry goes far beyond its material value – each piece carries a story, an exclusive design and special care in its production.
