The Best (and Worst) Looks at the 2025 Met Gala

This Year's Theme
The Met Gala was created in 1948, and each edition has a specific theme, which inspires the guests' looks and defines the concept of the museum's exhibition.
The MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) in New York recently hosted another Met Gala, one of the most exclusive and influential events in the world of fashion.
Held annually, this event raises funds for the Costume Institute, the department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art dedicated to studying and preserving the history of fashion.
This year, the theme of the gala was African creativity and the influence of African Americans on fashion, but also fashion itself as an “instrument of liberation”. The official theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, celebrating the black dandy aesthetic and the heritage of tailoring in Afro-descendant culture and which aimed to explore the impact of the “Black Dandy” style on menswear. With the "Tailored for You" dress code, guests were challenged to reinterpret men's clothing in a creative and personalized way.
The result?
A night full of sophistication, boldness and some memorable slip-ups.
How was the Met Gala created and who organizes it?
Organized by Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue since 1995, the event usually brings together celebrities, designers and influencers from the fashion world.
A curious detail is that tickets for the Met Gala can be extremely expensive. In this edition, an individual ticket could cost up to R$70,000. But anyone who wanted a table for 10 people would have to pay around R$325,000. However, having money is not enough to guarantee a place at the Met Gala. The guest list is carefully selected by Anna Wintour, who personally approves each name on it.
There are still many celebrities who are invited by luxury brands, who pay for their tickets in exchange for publicity and visibility.
The Best and Worst Looks from the 2025 Met Gala
Elegance, Audacity and Some Surprises
Highlights: The Best Looks of the Night
Rihanna
One of the highlights of this year was Rihanna's belly, which announced to the world her third pregnancy, the result of her relationship with rapper and music producer A$AP Rocky. The couple already have two children together, this being their third child. The star wore a Marc Jacobs dress that combined elegance and emotion, becoming one of the most talked about moments of the night.
Zendaya
Known for her bold choices, Zendaya surprised everyone this time, with a more discreet Louis Vuitton ensemble, standing out for its sophistication and alignment with the night's theme.
Diana Ross
The singer's return to this event after a 22-year absence was marked by a white dress with an impressive and extensive train embroidered with her family's names in one of the most interesting looks of this Met Gala. The music legend shone in the chosen look that paid homage, at the same time, to his life story and the theme of the night.
Janelle Monáe
Wearing Thom Browne, Monáe embodied the dandy aesthetic with a contemporary twist, reinforcing her reputation as a style and fashion icon.
A$AP Rocky e Pharrell Williams
Both co-chairs of the event stood out with modern interpretations of classic tailoring, highlighting the versatility of the theme.
Slip-ups: The Worst Looks of the Night
Kim Kardashian
She opted for a fitted black dress and wide-brimmed hat, but the choice was considered uninspired and disconnected from the theme. Although, in our opinion, the jewelry she chose was beautiful and the highlight of the look.
Georgina Rodríguez
Cristiano Ronaldo's partner appeared in a black lace dress that some critics said "looked more like a nightgown", although everyone recognized that she looked very elegant and beautiful.
Shakira
The singer appeared wearing a long dress in a deep pink tone reminiscent of the “Barbie” aesthetic that shocked most of those present and seemed to “break the protocol” imposed for the night of the event.
Heidi Klum
The supermodel opted for a simple black dress, which, although elegant, was seen as too safe a choice for the occasion and event in question.
Maya Hawke
With a light pink dress and transparent cape, it was considered beautiful, but it didn't match the proposed tailoring theme.
Joe Burrow
The American football player debuted at the Met Gala wearing a baggy suit and sneakers, a combination that did not please fashion critics at all.
Omar Apollo
Despite being bold, her ensemble with a cropped jacket and printed shirt was seen as excessive and lacking in cohesion.
Conclusion
The 2025 Met Gala was a celebration of fashion as an expression of culture and identity. While some guests shone by incorporating the theme with creativity and respect, others demonstrated that, even at high-level events, there is room for learning and adjustments.
The night reinforced the importance of fashion as a form of storytelling and representation, especially by highlighting the rich tradition of black tailoring.
